Funeral services for Shirley L. Coates, 72, of Rayville, LA were held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at the Brown-Holley Funeral Chapel, Rayville, LA with Bro. Norman Bryant officiating. Interment followed in the Mulhearn Memorial Park, Monroe, LA under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, LA.

Mrs. Shirley was born January 13, 1947 in Monroe, LA and passed away Friday, January 10, 2020 in Monroe, LA.

She loved her family and friends and will sadly be missed. Mrs. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, friend and grandmother.

Mrs. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Edward “John” Coates; son, Kenneth Coates; parents, Melvin and Mae Garsee; and her sister, Connie Garsee.

Survivors include her children, Debbie Pritchard and husband, Homer of Rayville, Mark Coates and fiancé`, Naomi Peavy of Rayville, and John Coates and wife, Billie Joe of Swartz; 11-grandchildren and 16-great grandchildren; sisters, Effie Anding of West Monroe and Mary Rowland of Rayville; brothers, James Garsee of Rayville and Dennis Garsee of Alto; special friends who are more like sisters, Elizabeth Tarver and Edith Spencer.

Pallbearers were Trey Cook, Corey Hawthorne, John Coates, James Lord, Carl Adcock, and Jay Davis.
