Memorial services for Mr. Sheldon Ray Powell, 68, of Start, LA were held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the First Baptist Church, Rayville, LA with Bro. Stacy Thomas officiating under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, LA.

Mr. Sheldon was born January 4, 1955 in Delhi, LA and passed away Friday, September 29, 2023 in Monroe, LA.

Sheldon was born to Joseph and Mae Belle Powell on January 4, 1955, in Delhi, Louisiana. He spent fifty years married to the love of his life Sherlyn Powell. They had four children: Shalanda, Shondell, Shandon, and Shadly.

After high school, he managed independent grocery stores for thirty-five years. In retirement he was an entrepreneur, and his favorite title, a deal maker.

The best words to describe Sheldon were hard-working and selfless. There was no limit to what he would do for those he loved, often giving more of himself than anyone should. His most prized roles were husband, father and Pappaw. As the patriarch of the Powell family he instilled in his children and grandchildren the value of caring for others and keeping your word. While we are devastated at the sudden loss of our favorite man, we are so relieved that he is now in Heaven with his sons Shondell and Shandon, and we are reassured that we will see him again.

Sheldon is preceded in death by his parents and children, Shondell and Shandon; his father and mother-in-law Pearlie and Christine Ezell; sister-in-law Cheryl Powell; brother-in-law Glenn Ezell.

Sheldon is survived by his wife Sherlyn, his children Michael, Shalanda, and Shadly, son-in-law Erik Stanley, daughters-in-law Kimberly Powell and Brandy Stanfield; grandchildren Eliza and Jake Stanley, Ella, Addi, Sam, and Hadley Powell, and Carter Horne; his sisters Sue Reyna and JoAnne Crosser; his sister-in-law Kay Powell; his brothers Wayne and Jimmy Powell; brothers and sisters-in-law Earnest Ezell, Danny Ezell, Bruce and Laurie Ezell, Wanda and Mark Kelley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
