Funeral services for Oliver Travis Buckley, 85, of Kingwood, TX were held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of Archibald, LA with Bro. Brandon Penton officiating. Interment followed in the Lynn Cemetery, Archibald, LA under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, LA.

Mr. Travis was born February 12, 1935 in Swartz, LA and passed away Friday, February 14, 2020 in Kingwood, TX.

Mr. Travis was a veteran with the U.S. Army. He served in Korea, Japan, Germany (3 tours), Vietnam (2 tours), Alaska (2 tours), Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. He also taught college at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York while serving in the Army. He was a highly decorated veteran earning the Army Bronze Cross for Valor. He was a MIA for almost 2 weeks after the Battle of hamburger Hill and was offered the Purple Heart and chose to decline it because “he was doing his job”. He was a decorated marksman in handguns, pistols, rifle, and cargine gunnery. He served for 35 years in the military.

He was also a proud father and is survived by his family, including his daughter, Sandra Buckley Chiles and her husband, Mark A. Chiles of Porter, Texas; sons, Travis Keith Buckley and his wife, Barbra of Austin, Texas, Marvin Dewey Buckley and his wife, Debra of Pearland, Texas, and Gregory Alan Buckley and his wife, Brigitte of Beaumont, Texas; grandson, Ryan Travis Buckley of Kingwood, Texas; sisters, Shelby Jean Lawrence of AZ, Barbara Ann Nourse, and Carolyn Simmons of WA and Idaho. His grandchildren by Sandra’s marriage also include, Mark Ezekiel Chiles, MaryRuth Chiles, Natosha Maychile, Sarah Moomaw, and through Brigitte Buckley, her son, Christopher Stouder. Great grandchildren include, Ethan Chiles, Luke Chiles, Elysse Chiles, Aurellia Chiles, Maddie Chiles, Haley Chiles, and the twins, Lylah and Claire Moomaw.

Serving as pallbearers were the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
