Mary Anita "Anita" Apodaca Fields

A great, bright and beautiful light has gone out among us. Mary Anita “Anita” Apodaca Fields (94) was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Leon in the early morning of Wednesday, September 19, 2018. She is survived by a brother, Daniel Apodaca; sister, Rosa Apodaca; daughter, Judith Fields Jennings (George Jennings); daughter, Sandra Fields Harper; son, Carroll Leon Fields (Gwen Sherwood Fields); 8 grandchildren and spouses; 10 great grandchildren; and one great- great grandchild. 

Born August 19, 1924, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to parents, Dina Ramirez Apodaca and Alfonso Apodaca, Anita lived a full and fascinating life worthy of the silver screen. At 20 years old, while living with her family in Los Angeles, California, the young beauty met a sailor on leave there, and her world would be forever changed. The great love that ensued would be the tenor of her life, taking her across the country to rural northeast Louisiana, sight unseen, where (never looking back) she would happily make her life- raising a loving and bustling family on the farm with the quiet, red head sailor who always held her heart. She shared her days with countless friends, practiced a deep and abiding faith, and brought joy, life and an unabashed sense of fun; not only to those who knew her, but to every place she entered. Her presence filled a room like no other and her kind, unselfish and giving nature touched many. Vivacious does not do her justice and her legacy cannot be reduced to a page. Her sharp sense of humor and trademark wit never left, attempting humor with even her last breaths, when words would scarcely come.  Larger than life, this world could no longer contain her radiant spirit, longing to be with the Lord and her precious Leon.  Their extraordinary love story, particularly her unwavering devotion to him for all of her days, inspired all who knew them, and will live on in the lives of their family for generations to come.

Trey Jennings, Jude Jennings, Cole Fields, Wayne Parker, Grayson Parker and Whit Parker will serve as pallbearers. 

A visitation will be held at Brown-Holley Funeral Home, 10324 Hwy 17 South, Oak Grove, LA 71263, on Saturday, September 22nd at 10:00 am. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 am, with Bro. Mark Shiers officiating.
