Memorial services for Martha “Peewee” Stokes were held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Antioch Baptist Church, Rayville, LA with Bro. Keith Evans officiating.
Martha L. Stokes, 79, of Rayville, LA was born April 28, 1946 in Delhi, LA and passed away Friday, August 8, 2025 in Rayville, LA.
Martha Stokes “Peewee” was an employee of Richland Parish School System for 47 years. She began her career at the Archibald Special School as a teacher’s aide and helped with Special Olympics. Later, she moved to Rayville High School where she continued as a teacher’s aide and took on more responsibilities. She was an assistant coach for the Rayville High Girls Softball team and as a bus driver.
She was an excellent cook. She baked many a cake for her co-workers to enjoy. She also used her skills to cook and bake as her ministry to visit those in the community.
She loved the outdoors. She loved to walk with friends and was up to 5 miles a day. She loved the holidays with family and the games played especially “Chickenfoot”.
She always had a smile on her face and was more than willing to help any and everyone. She will be truly missed.
Her wish would be that all love and live for the Lord.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, James Best (Cathy) and Ruby Best Stilwell (John); brother, Lewis Best; and sisters, Gloria Beaird and Barbara Faye Dugat.
Survivors include her husband, Edward “Buck” D. Stokes, Jr.; children, Eddie Stokes and Cathy Jordan (Mike); grandchildren, Jacob Stokes, Brittany Stokes, Magan Bomar (Barry), Hannah Sachs (Tony), and Caleb Mathews; sister, Jodi Scott; brother, Billy Best; several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
