Funeral services for Luther “LJ” Stowe, 64, of Grayson, LA will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Brown-Holley Funeral Chapel, Rayville, LA with Nathan Stowe officiating. Interment will be in Greer Cemetery, Rayville, LA.
Luther “L.J.” Stowe, a lifelong hard worker and modern-day cowboy, was born July 28, 1960 in Rayville, LA passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2025 in Columbia, LA.
Born and raised in Louisiana, L.J. spent most of his life outdoors—whether on a ranch, in an 18-wheeler, or under the oil pan of a busted tractor. He wore oil-stained Wranglers, a John Deere hat, and a work ethic few could match. He could fix or carry just about anything that needed fixing—and he did it without complaint.
He was known for his grit, his toughness, and his unmatched ability to push through—especially during long, sweltering Texas summers. His family remembers the days they’d be fixing flats on tractors in 100-degree heat, digging fence post holes, wrestling cattle, and hauling gear with nothing but sweat and determination to get through the day. It wasn’t easy work, but for L.J., it was just another Tuesday.
L.J. lived hard, and in his later years, he struggled with the weight of life and the silence that comes with pain. But through it all, his love for his sons never stopped—even if he didn’t always know how to show it.
He was a man of colorful phrases and deep contradictions. Some of his sayings—like “That boy’s shivering like a dog trying to crap a peach seed”—still make people laugh. And after a long day, beer in hand, he’d lean back and say: “I’ve been too good for too long.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Evelina Stowe; and sister, Rene' Stowe.
He is survived by his children, Nathan Stowe and wife, Laura, Lucas Stowe, Logan Stowe, and Emmaleah Stowe; his granddaughter, Ella; brother, Stevie Stowe and wife, DeAnn; and extended family members in Louisiana and Texas.
L.J. was human, flawed, and full of fight. But he was loved deeply and will be remembered fiercely—for the work he did, the strength he carried, and the part of him that lives on in those who knew the real man.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Stowe, Anthony Gregoire, Kelly Gin, Logan Stowe, Mike Mayfield, and Scott Whitaker. Honorary pallbearer is Parker Mayfield.
Visitation will be 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Brown-Holley Funeral Chapel, Rayville, LA.
