Lenfield D. "Butch" Gilley, II: A Free Spirit's Final Ride

Lenfield D. "Butch" Gilley, II, a man whose life was a symphony of adventure and passion, passed away on March 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of charisma and a spirit as free as the open road. Born and raised in Rayville, Louisiana, Butch's journey took him far beyond his hometown, weaving through the landscapes of Ohio, Texas, North Carolina, and Virginia.

Even in his early high school years, Butch displayed an exceptional talent for electronics, teaching himself to build and repair CB radios. His fascination with the airwaves and the camaraderie of truckers earned him the moniker "Guitar Man," a fitting name for a man whose life would be defined by both music and connection. Truckers knew they could always count on him to fix their radios or provide a replacement. This early passion paved the way for a successful career in telecommunications, culminating in his role as a respected computer analyst.

Butch was a charismatic and free-spirited soul, a true adventurer at heart. He loved nothing more than exploring new places, embracing the open road on his beloved Harley Davidson, and feeling the wind in his hair. When not riding or attending concerts, he could be found immersed in his music, his guitar his constant companion. He transformed into a rock star when he played, always insisting on at least one amplifier to amplify his powerful sound. His musical talents were vast, encompassing all brass instruments in his high school marching band, drums, and both acoustic and electric guitars. His favorite word, "cool," perfectly encapsulated his laid-back, adventurous, and effortlessly stylish nature. He was, simply put, the coolest person you could ever know.

Butch will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will forever cherish his vibrant spirit and love for life.

A celebration of Butch's life, themed "One Last Ride," was held to honor his memory. Visitation was at Brown-Holley Funeral Home in Rayville, Louisiana, on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A memorial service followed from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Afterwards, everyone went to Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe, Louisiana, where Butch was laid to rest alongside his first love and wife, Kathy.
