JV will be interred in the family plot at Lake Providence cemetery. JV expressly stated he did not want a funeral, a mass, or a memorial! The family is abiding by his wishes.
JV was proud of his Italian Heritage, and he loved to share it with you! He loved his home, on Davis Street, his town and his parish!
He loved books, knowledge and movies!
He spent many hours researching history and genealogy of people and places related to East Carroll Parish. He was most interested in Learning the geographics, the history and the logistics of Lake Providence & the people who settled here. His research led him to understand the people groups of the town and what part they played in the foundation of its history. He also researched the Catholic Church, which was dear to his heart. JV had a doctorate from the Pontificate College Josephinum in Worthington, Ohio and Maryhill Seminary in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was a brilliant man. He also served 6 years in the United States Army at the beginning of Vietnam War.
People who knew him loved him and respected him.
His favorite places were the Clerk of Courts, Tax Assessor’s office, Library, (kudos to the people who helped him do his research), & of course Tim’s Locksmith Service.
JV spent many years as Town Clerk & had various other jobs growing up. He worked with his dad at Sam’s Barber Shop and stated he wanted to be a Barber just like his dad.
JV was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Salvador (Angelina) Maggio, Natalie (David) Castleman, Guy (Shirley) Maggio, Rose Marie (John) Rodge, & Carmen Maggio. Nephew: Mike Maggio.
He leaves behind nieces and nephews: Ron (Tessie) Maggio, Florida, Larry, (Julia) Maggio, Colorado, David (Freddie) Archibald, LA, Lori Long, South Carolina, Karen (Ronald) Rentrop, Junea, Alaska & Kathy Meaney, Houston, Texas.
