Obituary

Funeral services for John Wesley Roy, Jr. were held at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 19, 2023 at First Baptist Church, Rayville, LA with Dr. Eddie Wren and Bro. Johnny Hoychick officiating. Interment was in the Start Cemetery, Start, LA under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, LA.

John W. Roy, Jr., age 85, of Rayville, Louisiana, went home to be with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the 15th of May, 2023. John was born in Mangham on the 5th of August, 1937, and he was a graduate of Ouachita High School. John was a devoted car salesman for over 40 years and he worked at Jim Taylor Chevrolet up until his passing. He enjoyed doing many things including working, hunting, and fishing. John was an active member at First Baptist Church, where he worshiped the Lord with his dearest fellow church members.

John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He never met a stranger. John married his high-school sweetheart, Gail Stewart Roy, on the 23rd of February, 1957. The two were blessed with three children: Chuck, Rhonda, and John David. He also cherished his nephew, John Milton, who he enjoyed spending time with. John was the best papaw to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and he loved them endlessly. He also had a soft spot for his favorite little dog, Lady, who never left his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and John Roy, Sr.; and siblings, Billie Roy and Pete Carr.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Gail Roy of Rayville, LA; children, Chuck Roy and Robin of Hot Springs, AR, Rhonda Roy Dahlberg and husband, Larry of Little Rock, AR, and John D. Roy of Start, LA; grandchildren, Charles W. Roy, Jr. and Sherri, Amanda C. Roy, Heather Bond, Haley Roy, Zachary Roy, and Sarah D. Sites; great grandchildren, Mason Turner, Cade Bond, and Peyton Roy; great-great grandchildren, Hudson Sites and Christian Robinson; daughters-in-law, Debbie Roy and Jodie Williams; favorite little dog, Lady; and his numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Chuck Roy, Charles Roy, Larry Dahlberg, John Carr, John Carr, Jr., and Zach Roy.
