Funeral services for Fred Murphy, Sr., 85, of Rayville, LA were held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Brown-Holley Funeral Chapel, Rayville, LA with Bro. Jeff Thomas officiating. Interment was in the Rayville Masonic Cemetery, Rayville, LA under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, LA.

Mr. Fred was born July 19, 1939 in Lake Providence, LA and passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025 in Rayville, LA after a lengthy illness.

Fred Murphy, Sr. will be remembered for his service in the community, as owner of Murphy’s Grocery for 40 years. His customers were like family to him. Fred was a veteran with the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ora Bell Acreman; father, Fredrick Berziel Murphy; sister, Shirley Herring; granddaughter, Crystal Ivy; and great great grandson, Austin Patterson; son-in-law Arvin Dale Lord (Beverly’s husband).

Survivors include his children, Kenneth Murphy, Edna Lusk and husband, Steve, Beverly Lord, Fred Murphy, Jr. and wife, Michelle, and Roger Murphy; 14-grandchildren, 19-great grandchildren, and 2-great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Bryant and Sadie Quimby.

Pallbearers were Fred Murphy, Jr., Roger Murphy, Kenneth Murphy, Steve Lusk, Travis Munholland, and Brandon Murphy.

Honorary pallbearers were Timmy Jinks, Jacob Droesser, and Alan Dreamer.
