Evelyn Smith Harwell, 80, of Mangham, Louisiana, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 5, 2026. Born on January 8, 1946 in Rayville, Louisiana, she was the beloved child of R.L. Smith and Syvillar Bennett Smith. She was a devoted Christian and a long-time member of Rayville Presbyterian Church, where she served faithfully in many capacities.
Evelyn had a long career as a rural mail carrier. Upon retirement, she cared for her son, Tony, as he battled ALS, and cheered on her granddaughter, Maddy, in her many extracurricular activities.
She was an avid fan of classic cinema, antiques, and spending time with family.
Above all, Evelyn loved the Lord and lived out her faith by serving others.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Smith Jr.; and beloved son, Tony Harwell. She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith to be cherished by her loving spouse of 59 years, Robert Neal Harwell; sister and brother-in-law, Sybil and Dr. Michael Albritton; brother-in-law, Larry Harwell; son, Neal Harwell (Jennifer); grandchildren, Madalyn Harwell (fiancé Andrew Sevier), Savannah Wall (Lucas), and Avery Marchbank; great-grandsons Declan and Radd Wall; and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Foundation.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Rayville Presbyterian Church, located at 824 N Julia St, Rayville, LA. Family and friends are invited to gather.
