Doug Moon, aged 59, passed away on July 10, 2024. He was a loving father, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Doug was born on May 18, 1965, to Barbara and Lamar Moon. He graduated from Osborne High School in Marietta in 1983 and attended Berry College, where he ran Cross Country and graduated with a degree in History. Doug taught P.E. at the Darlington School in Rome. He became the Recreation Director at Trinity Methodist Church in Cartersville before settling in Rayville, Louisiana, where he pursued his love of photography and became a Croupier for Ameristar in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
More than anything, Doug was a devoted father. He loved spending time with Sophie, sharing stories, going to ball games, camping, photography, taking in stray animals, and heading out to Yellowstone as often as possible. Doug enjoyed Golf, kayaking, camping, photography, gambling, and making everything a game or competition. Doug was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
Doug is survived by his daughter, Sophie, his sister, Donna Moon New, and his brothers, Bill and Larry Moon.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for family and friends at Milford Baptist Church (1030 Milford Church Road) in Marietta, GA on Saturday, August 10th at 2:00 PM (Visitation 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM)
