Graveside services for Doris Ann Glover Horne were held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 12, 2025 at the Little Brown Cemetery, New Site, Mississippi.
Doris Ann Glover Horne, 82, of Rayville, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025. She was born on July 16, 1942, in Booneville, Mississippi, to Millard and Johnnie Glover, and spent her early years there. Doris was a member of Schlater Baptist Church during her time in Mississippi, a reflection of the strong community values she carried with her throughout her life. Doris met the love of her life, J.C., in the summer of 1959, and just six months later, they were married. From that moment on, their lives were filled with love and the joy of growing their family together.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, J.C. Horne Jr.; her son, Clint Horne and wife Eva; her daughter, Christi Horne Walker and husband Rodney; and her beloved grandchildren: Channing McPherson (husband Josh), Jess Horne (wife Brittany), Drew Horne (wife Linda Claire), and Allie Robbins (husband Haden). She was also the proud great-grandmother to eight cherished great-grandchildren: Lily, Jesse, Sawyer, Jack, Rawls, Georgie, Camille, and Daniel.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Millard and Johnnie Glover; her sister, Madge Glover McKinney; and her brothers, Kenneth Glover and Buddy Glover.
Doris dedicated over 30 years to a career she truly loved as a Registered Nurse. She cared deeply for her patients and colleagues and left a lasting impact on those she served. While she held many titles in life -daughter, sister, wife, mother, nurse-her most treasured title was “Nana.”
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was famous among them for her “Nana sacks,” filled with treats, surprises, and a little shopping money. She shared countless memories with her grandbabies in their “playroom”. Her home was always open, filled with warmth, laughter, dance parties, and unconditional love for her “babies” and all their friends.
Doris also had a love for animals and shared a special bond over the years with her cats Tilly, Bubba, and Orie. In her quiet moments, she found joy and peace in canvas painting, where her creativity and vibrant spirit shone through.
Doris will be remembered for her generous heart, and the light she brought into the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the family she adored.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
