Charlotte Ann McKnight, 79, of Rayville, LA was born December 12, 1944 in Rayville, LA and passed away Monday, September 23, 2024 in Shreveport, LA. The family had a private service Thursday, September 26, 2024 at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Rayville, LA.
Charlotte was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rayville. She also was a member of the Saints Alive and helped cook for the Celebration of Recovery at the church. She was a member of the Bell Choir and Wreaths Across America.
Charlotte loved to cook because she loved to eat good food. She said "but it didn't seem worth the effort for less than 10 people".
In the 80s, she and BJ owned a barbecue restaurant called " The Smoky Hollow." They loved to serve the community.
She was very talented and creative. She taught herself to crochet, knit and embroidery. She also took art classes from the late Inez Faust, where she learned to oil and watercolor paint.
Later she took ceramic classes and had a ceramic shop called the "The Hen House", where twenty-three ladies would meet to paint and "cackle” on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
After losing their home and the Hen House in a fire 1987, she and BJ took stained glass classes in Branson Mo. This was her favorite hobby!
She loved to share her talents with her friends but in her last year, she could only crochet. Anytime someone came to see her, she would give them a crocheted "scrubby or dish rag".
She loved people and will be greatly missed. We will see her again in Heaven.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, B.J. McKnight of Rayville, LA; daughter, Mona Ryan (Greg) of Haughton, LA; grandchildren, Megan Hatfield, Seth Ryan, Sarah Ryan, and Javonte Woodard and wife, Sydney; and great grandchildren, Paisleigh Merritt, Shiloh Woodard, and Sutton Woodard.
