Carey Michael “Mike” Sharbono, age 69, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 24, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A Celebration of Life service was held at the Mangham Methodist Church at 3:00 PM, Friday, June 27, 2025 with Reverends Brian Mercer and Jimmy Wilkins officiating. Visitation was prior to the service at the church beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment was at the Gwin Cemetery in Mangham, Louisiana, all under the direction of Brown and Holley Funeral Home of Rayville, LA.
Mike’s journey on this earth began on December 27, 1955 in Wisner, Louisiana and touched countless lives with his humor and vibrant spirit along the way. Though Mike may no longer walk among us, his spirit will live on in the memories held dear by his family and friends, cherished memories that will forever echo in their hearts and guide them in their times of darkness.
Mike graduated from Mangham High School in 1974 and worked for Graphics Packaging, Plant 70 in West Monroe for 35 years. He was an active member of Mangham Methodist Church and the community of Mangham as he and Kaye raised their family. He loved to fish and play golf but his greatest pleasure was to hunt quail with his favorite canine children (Rudy and Buddy). Mike loved all things LSU, avidly following the football and baseball teams. Moreover; Mike lived, loved and prayed for his family, the center of his universe.
Survivors include the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Kaye Hixon Sharbono whom he married in 1975. His beloved hero, his son, Michael Chad Sharbono and daughter-in-law, Maggie of Katy, Texas and his daughter, his heart and soul, Kayla Sharbono Coots and son-in-law, Jacob of Prairieville, Louisiana. Also survived by the pride and joy of his life, his precious grandchildren, Molly Sharbono, Meredith Sharbono, Ayden Coots, and Samuel Coots.
Other survivors include his parents, Shelton and Fredonia Sharbono. His siblings, Rene’ Childress (Dan) and Mark Sharbono. His well-loved Hixon family, Samuel Hixon (father-in-law), Judie and Bubba Bell and Sammy and Shannon Hixon. Also survived by two treasured Uncles, Ronnie Mercer and Larry Mercer as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike is preceded in death by Genell Hixon (mother-in-law) and his grandparents, Buddy and Emma Mercer and Carey and Nanola Sharbono.
Pallbearers were Gary Williams, Joel Williams, Jeff Boughton, Dee Bruce, Billy Bruce, Chris Pruitt, Dale Buford, and Donnie Johns.
Kaye, Chad and Kayla would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the family and friends that have walked this long and hard journey with them and have prayed fervently for them. Those prayers along with the grace and mercy of our Savior, Jesus Christ, have made this journey bearable. Also, a huge heartfelt thanks to Erica Wyatt, Debra Fletcher, Phillip Myers and Crissie Moore of the St. Josephs Hospice team and to Ms. Janice Lingefelt who so lovingly and tenderly cared for Mike during the last stages of the disease. We believe wholeheartedly in what Paul said while in prison and facing persecution in Philippians 1:21, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain”, and we know with certainty that our loved has received his gain in heaven now and is better by far.
Memorials can be made in Mike’s memory to Mangham Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
