Billy Grice Obituary

Billy Don Grice, loving husband, devoted father and doting grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the age of 81. The baby boy of eight children born to Charlie Barum "CB" Grice and Nannie Bell Grice, Billy was born on March 24, 1937, in Redwing, LA. Having been the youngest of eight children, Billy was especially close to his mom, and he looked up to all of seven older siblings throughout the years. While growing up, Billy attended Fiske Union School. He married Tommie Holley on April 18, 1964, at the home of Tommie's parents, Ulysses and Avis Holley and were about to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary. This union of marriage was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Hollie and Billie "Dawn", who was lovingly named after him. They made their home in Redwing where he enjoyed watching his daughters play basketball, softball and excel in school. He was very proud of them both. Billy provided a warm and loving home for his family by farming his land and raising cattle, horses, chickens and goats. He was always happiest when he was driving his John Deere Tractor, caring for his animals and having his extended family around him. He always had several dogs, blue heelers or Great Pyrenees dogs protecting his herd. He took great pride in working the land, multiplying his herd and caring for his family. He made many lifelong friends through his lifetime and he was often found talking on the phone with one of them or sitting with his friends on the truck tailgate trading stories and theories about just anything really. Billy never meet a stranger and always had a firm hand shake or hug to offer his friends. Billy also loved going to auctions, collecting Aladdin Lamps, watching different country singers on TV and political news. Billy was especially blessed man during his lifetime. He was blessed with an amazing, beautiful, gracious, helpful and Godly wife, Tommie, who dedicated her life to loving him unconditionally and provided many home-cooked meals for him. He was also blessed with two of the most hardworking, devoted and loving daughters any man could ask for. They always respected and honored their dad even when it could be challenging at times. Those three grandkids of Billy's, they were the apple of his eyes. He was lovingly called "Papaw" by his grandkids, and they thought he hung the moon. His grandkids were always sitting in Papaw's lap, riding in the tractor with him, feeding the cows or playing cards with him. He was always there to help support them in their endeavors whether it was soccer, football, scholastics or church programs. Billy was always willing to lend a helping hand to his friends and renters. Sometimes, on the inside Billy was a really soft-hearted man. Billy was a believer in God and worshipped God and witnessed to everyone. He was member of the East Oak Grove Church of God. Billy gave his heart to the Lord and although we will miss him deeply each day, we take great comfort in knowing he is healed, safe and happy in the arms of the Almighty God in Heaven. We rejoice in the day we will be reunited with him again, until the time God calls us home, we remember him and he will continue to live on in each of our hearts. We know he is driving tractors and herding cattle in Heaven. We love you!
