Funeral services for Betty Jean (Curl) Baker, 89, of Rayville, LA were held at 11:00 A.M., visitation was at 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 1, 2024 in Rayville at the Brown-Holley Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Ellzey officiating. Interment was in the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home of Rayville.
Betty Jean (Curl) Baker, Jean as she will be fondly remembered by most, was born to Claudia (Weatherford) Curl and William Brown Curl on December 30, 1934 in Rayville, LA. She passed away comfortably at The Columns of Bastrop Assisted Living on July 29, 2024.
Jean graduated from Rayville High School in 1954. For most of her adult life, Jean waitressed at the City Cafe in Rayville and the Bend Of The River in Alto. She loved family, friends, animals, and was an amazing cook. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where she attended and was a fixture providing countless volunteer hours preparing food for special events. She began oil painting in the 1980’s after taking lessons from Don Cincone and produced many beautiful paintings of landscapes and flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 53 years, James D Baker. She is survived by her sisters, Helen (Curl) Moore of Rayville and Dorothy (Curl) O’Neal of Rayville, daughter, Karen DeLynn (Jeffrey) Shoemaker of Daphne, AL, grandson, Benjamin David (Sarah) Morris and great-grandson, Carter David Morris of Oak Grove, grandson, Mitchell Shea Morris of Pensacola, FL, step-granddaughter, Jodie (Chris) Hager and step-great-grandchildren, Evan and Chloe of New Carlisle, OH, and Victoria of Oklahoma, step-granddaughter, Amy Shoemaker and step-great-granddaughter, Lucy of Start, along with numerous nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, sisters, Elizabeth (Curl) Parker, Annie Mae (Curl) Williamson, Dolly (Curl) Wingfield, and brother, William Thomas ‘Buddy’ Curl.
